It was predicted in this column that Commando 3 would take an opening in the range of Rs. 3-4 crores. As it turned out, the collections were a bit better as Rs. 4.74 crores came in. Though the morning shows were not really up to the mark, footfalls started getting a bit better by afternoon which ensured that the first day would emerge as reasonably decent.
The film has seen a widespread release for itself as it has released at 2456 screens. That’s quite good actually for a franchise where the lifetime number of the first two installments was in the range of Rs. 25 crores each. However, with no other movie in the running, there was a platform available for a widespread arrival of Commando 3.
Considering that, the collections could have been better. However, still the start is there, which means one can expect a decent weekend if jumps are evidenced on Saturday and Sunday. While Commando had brought in Rs. 3.69 crores on its first day, Commando 2 had done better at Rs. 5.15 crores. Now with Commando 3 opening in between, it would be interesting to see how it proceeds from here.

The keenly anticipated film Pagalpanti finally hit screens. Starring an ensemble cast of John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Kriti Kharbanda, Pulkit Samrat, Ileana D’Cruz, and Urvashi Rautela the film promises to be a rib ticking entertainer. But will this translate into box office numbers is the question.
In this box office report we take a look at the box office collections of Pagalpanti in the overseas markets on Day 8 (Friday).
Australia box office

Marjaavaan has emerged as a decent success at the box office. The film did well in the first week to amass Rs. 37.87 crores, though it did drop in the second week and ended up collecting Rs. 8.57 crores. Though at one point in time it had seemed that the film would manage to cross the Rs. 55 crores lifetime, currently it would be touch and go with the Rs. 50 crores milestone.
The film has so far collected Rs. 46.44 crores with numbers hovering between Rs. 85 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore in the weekdays. Though at multiplexes the film wasn’t much in the running, at single screen theatres it brought in audiences consistently. It did lose a big chunk of screens to Pagalpanti though; otherwise it may just have managed to cross Rs. 50 crores by now itself.
The Milap Zaveri directed film is a good shot in the arm for Sidharth Malhotra and now one waits to see how his Shershaah opens in 2020.

Bala has kept its super hit run intact over the week gone by. The collections stayed on to be good despite very low count of screens. They were in fact better than Marjaavaan, which released a week later, and not much behind Pagalpanti (at least at multiplexes), which was the new release of the week.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the film collected Rs. 0.90 crores and Rs. 0.91 crores respectively, hence indicating a good hold during the weekdays as well. Even on Monday and Tuesday, the film had collected Rs. 1.05 crores and Rs. 1.15 crores respectively, which pretty much signifies how the target audiences have continued to give the Ayushmann Khurranna a demo.
So far, the Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik film has accumulated Rs. 109.88 crores. This week arrives Commando 3, which means screens would be further reduced. Though it is pretty much assured that the film would manage to go past the Rs. 115 crores, it would be interesting to see if Rs. 120 crores lifetime total is achieved as well.

Commando 3 is set to take a fair start at the box office. This is one of those franchises which has seen a couple of instalments release in theatres with both doing decent business in the range of Rs. 25 crores each. Typically, franchises or sequels are built when the predecessors have done an increment business. However, it is to good conviction of producer Vipul Shah that he has gone ahead and pitched Commando 3 as a bigger and better affair.
The film’s promo suggests that the scale has been enhanced for this Vidyut Jammwal actioner. With Adah Sharma returning to the fold and Gulshan Devaiah as the villain of the piece, one awaits the kind of face off which should make Commando 3 further entertaining.
The Aditya Dutt directed film should be catering to the single screen audiences primarily, and especially in the interiors where audiences for this genre are far more prevalent. That said, one expects the opening to be fair and then footfalls growing on the basis of word of mouth over the weekend. As of now, a start of around Rs. 3-4 crores seems to be there for the taking and if that turns out to be the case, it would set a good enough platform for Commando 3 to consolidate further.

Marjaavaan had a fair Monday as if collected Rs. 0.80 crores* at the box office. Friday numbers were Rs. 1.09 crores so the drop is reasonable. That said, the collections are at the lower level now as ideally the film should have continued to collect at least in 1 crore range right through the weekdays of the second week as well.
It is playing on a very low count of screens and ironically the film which displaced it, Pagalpanti, isn’t doing well at all. This means theatres at large are wearing a deserted look and the scenario may have been just a bit different had Marjaavaan been playing at somewhat larger number of screens.
The Milap Zaveri directed film has collected Rs. 43.72 crores* so far and should manage to cross Rs. 46 crores by the time the second week is through. Commando 3 arrives in week to come and that’s also a single screens favouring film. That would make it a nail biting journey for Marjaavaan in its race towards the Rs. 50 crores milestone.
*Estimates. Final numbers awaited

Pagalpanti has flopped at the box office. The film had a poor opening and though there were some sort of jumps over the weekend, especially on Sunday, they were not huge enough to suggest a hold in weekdays to come. This is what happened too on Monday when just Rs. 2.5 crores came in. This was 50% fall from Friday collections of Rs. 5 crores, hence resulting in game over for the Anees Bazmee directed film.
Currently, the multistarrer stands at Rs. 22 crores and this is a very low total for a film which has been made at a good budget. In fact ideally these should have been the numbers accumulated in the first two days and hence the outcome is overall poor.
It is apparent that the audiences were not really interested to check out the film after the promo didn’t make much of an impact. Even though there was another promo of the film released as well, the damage was done already and there was no revival in fortunes. The film isn’t bad but in the times when the relevance of a promo is bigger than ever before, Pagalpanti has unfortunately taken a downward route.

It was a decent Sunday for Marjaavaan as Rs. 2.32 crores came in. Overall, the weekend has been fair and though after first week it had seemed that around Rs. 8 crores would be on the cards between Friday to Sunday, the collections have been somewhat lesser than that.
Overall, the total of the Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh starrer stands at Rs. 42.92 crores. From here, the Milap Zaveri directed film should manage to stretch towards the Rs. 50 crores total. The film is a commercial success due to costs involved and the price at which it was sold. For a predominantly single screen affair, this Milap Zaveri directed film has managed to keep its head high, despite not so flattering reviews.
Meanwhile, the film's producers Emmay Entertainment [Nikkhil Advani, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani] are through with the shooting of their next film, Indoo Ki Jawaani. Spearheaded by Kiara Advani with Aditya Seal as the leading man, this would be yet another film belonging to an altogether different zone and genre for the production house after Batla House and Marjaavaan.

With not much competition coming from Hindi films, except for the fact that it has lost a major count of screens, Bala changed gears further on Sunday. The film collected Rs. 3.23 crores more and that has elevated its score further to Rs. 105.87 crores.
The Ayushmann Khurranna, Yami Gautam and Bhumi Pednekar starrer would come close to the Rs. 110 crores mark by the end of week and from there a lifetime in the vicinity of Rs. 120 crores would be a possibility. That would make it Ayushmann's third highest grossing film after Dream Girl and Badhaai Ho. As for Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik, it would be their second highest grossing film as well after Stree [Rs. 130 crores]. In fact that film had also benefitted from chartbuster tracks and had that been the case of Bala, perhaps it may just have come further close.
The film is still amongst the Top-15 biggest grossers of 2019. There are a few biggies lined up for release in the last month of the year but still, Bala should stay in the Top-20 before the close of year.

Marjaavaan showed some jump on Saturday as Rs. 1.64 crores came in. The collections are now keeping fair in the second weekend, though even higher numbers would have been better news for all involved. Still, the film benefits from the fact that the opening weekend had seen good trending, especially with Sunday getting into a double digit zone which helped propel its collections to the safety mark.
The film has collected Rs. 40.60 crores so far and in the process has gone past the lifetime numbers of Judgementall Hai Kya [Rs. 38.30 crores] and Thackeray [Rs. 38 crores]. Next in line is Romeo Akbar Walter [Rs. 43 crores] and that should be surpassed as well in a couple of days. However that's the maximum that the film will come close to the competition higher up in the charts as Article 15 stood at Rs. 65.45 crores.
All eyes are now on footfalls that are evidenced today. Given the trending so far, a number in the vicinity of Rs. 2 crores seems like a possibility and anything more than that would be an added bonus for the Milap Zaveri directed film.

This was pretty much on the cards. With the kind of trending that Bala had shown from Thursday to Friday, what with not much of a drop been evidenced, it was quite apparent that the film will see a good jump on Saturday. This is what happened as the Amar Kaushik directed film went on a major upswing, what with Rs. 2.50 crores more coming in.
This is a very good number indeed as the film is set would see further addition in footfalls today, hence staying on to be the top choice of audiences at the multiplexes even in the third week. The film has accumulated Rs. 102.65 crores* already and would comfortably go past Rs. 105 crores milestone before the close of weekend.
What is further notable is the fact that Ayushmann Khurranna has already scored over Rs. 300 crores at the box office in a single calendar year. His Article 15 had netted Rs. 65.45 crores and post that Dream Girl did Rs. 142.26 crores. Now with Bala turning out to be a superhit as well, the cumulative total of his three films is more than Rs. 300 crores, which is truly a remarkable feat.

War has completed its 50 days run at the box office. The film was released on 2nd October and has now entered its eighth week in theatres. As a matter of fact, it is still running at 57 screens and that too when films like Housefull 4 and Bala has already entered the Rs 200 Crore Club and Rs 100 Crore Club in the interim period.
On its release, the Sidharth Anand directed film scored huge by taking a record opening of Rs 53.35 crores. It then went on to have an ultra-huge weekend and the first week to get past the Rs 100 crores and Rs 200 crores mark in a really quick time. Once that happened, it was a given that entry into the 300 Crore Club would be happening for sure. Of course, merits had to come into play for that and this is what made the journey from Rs 200 crores to Rs 300 crores really interesting.
Well, the film officially gained a blockbuster status for itself when it went past the Rs 300 crores mark and post that too numbers have continued to trickle in. The film has collected Rs 318 crores so far and though it would fall a little short of Bajrangi Bhaijaan [Rs 321 crores], it is still a huge enough total.
For Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff, this is as big as it gets. While one waits to check out what does Hrithik Roshan have to offer next, Tiger Shroff is already busy shooting for Baaghi 3, which is touted to be his next action blockbuster in the making.

After holding well during the weekdays, Marjaavaan had a drop in numbers on the second Friday as Rs. 1.09 crore came in. On Thursday, the collections were Rs. 2.53 crores so even after a reduction in screens due to arrival of Pagalpanti, it was expected that at least Rs. 1.25 crores would come in.
Nonetheless, the film now stands at Rs. 38.96 crores and while Rs. 40 crores would be crossed today itself, it has to be seen how big is the jump that the Milap Zaveri directorial takes. Of course, at one point in time it had seemed that the film would manage to come close to the Rs. 50 crores mark by end of second weekend itself. However, that would now happen by end of week, provided there is good jump today and tomorrow.
The job is still done for the Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh starrer to emerge as a plus film at least. Of course a bigger box office verdict would have been an even more heartening sign. Still, the fact that Marjaavaan has managed to reach this far is fair enough as well and all associated with the film would now be hearing up for their next one in the making.

Bala has entered Rs. 100 Crore Club. On its third Friday, the film collected Rs. 1.35 crores and with that the Amar Kaushik directed film has accumulated Rs. 100.15 crores. Bala has managed to achieve this feat in 15 days flat.
Since the fall from Thursday [Rs. 1.80 crores] to Friday [Rs. 1.35 crores] is reasonable, a good jump is on the cards today and tomorrow. In any case, the family entertainer has been doing good business over the weekends and the trend is expected to repeat this weekend as well.
Bala is now third century for Ayushmann Khurranna in his last four releases. After Badhaai Ho and Dream Girl, now Bala has crossed the 100 crores mark as well, while Article 15 which released intermittently was a good critical as well as commercial success too. For Bhumi Pednekar too, this is her second Rs. 100 Crore Club film after Toilet - Ek Prem Katha. As for Yami Gautam, 2019 has been going quite good for her as Uri - The Surgical Strike too had entered Rs. 200 Crore Club. Before that, Kaabil had scored a century.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik must be quite ecstatic too as this is their second century in a row after last year's blockbuster Stree. Earlier this year, Maddock Films' Luka Chuppi too had done quite well and fell just a little short of the century mark by ending its run at 95 crores.

Marjaavaan has done well in its first week. The film scored Rs. 37.87 crores and that has ensured that it would be counted as one of the successes of 2019. Though there is a bit of a drop from Wednesday (Rs. 3.16 crores) to Thursday (Rs. 2.53 crores), it is not concerning since on rest of the weekdays the collections stayed over the Rs. 3 crores mark.
The Milap Zaveri directed film is now expected to collect further Rs. 8-10 crores in its second weekend and that would take it quite close to the Rs. 50 crores mark. Post that whatever comes in would be added bonus for the Emmay and T-Series production that has already seen success together in Batla House earlier this year.
As for the actors connected to the film, there is good enough reason to rejoice. With Marjaavaan, Sidharth Malhotra, Riteish Deshmukh, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh now have a successful film to their name and that would help them conclude 2019 on a high.

Bala has scored well in its second week. The film stayed stable right through the weekdays. In fact its hold from Wednesday to Thursday was best during the week as numbers came down just a little from Rs. 1.96 crores to Rs. 1.80 crores.
So far, the Amar Kaushik directed film has collected Rs. 98.80 crores. Though at one point in time it had seemed that the Rs. 100 Crore Club entry would take place by Saturday, hold on Thursday has suggested that this can well take place by end of today itself. If that turns out to be the case, Bala would be scoring a century in 15 days flat, which is indeed a good enough deal.
Even though Pagalpanti is the new competition for the week, it is expected that Bala would hold well in the third weekend too. It is expected that Rs. 7-8 crores more would come in before the Ayushmann Khurranna starrer enters the weekdays and that would be good trending for the film.

Pagalpanti releases this Friday and is set to take a decent start at the box office. The film is an out and out comic entertainer and comes from the stable of Anees Bazmee, who is known for this genre. The film has seen good marketing and promotional push around this and from visibility standpoint; it has managed to make a mark for itself.
As for the film’s opening, it should take a decent start in the range of Rs. 8-10 crores. In fact had this been an event release and arrived on a festival or a major national holiday, the opening would have been even bigger and comfortably aimed for Rs. 15-20 crores start. However an arrival on a regular Friday means that the start would be fair and good growth can be expected over rest of the weekend.
The John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Pulkit Samrat, Ileana D’Cruz, Kriti Kharbanda and Urvashi Rautela starrer looks quite pretty in terms of the visuals and an out and out family entertainment appeal means that it would work well with children. In fact the kind of humour as indicated in the promo too is the kind that should work well with those who just want to laugh along on harmless jokes, gags and hilarious moments. If this is something that audiences grab well over the weekend, Pagalpanti could well see a good run for itself.

It was yet another good day for Marjaavaan as the Milap Zaveri directed film stayed over the Rs. 3 crores mark. There is good hold all through the week when compared with the opening day of Rs. 7.03 crores and if today also the collections are sustained in the same range, one can expect reasonable numbers tomorrow as well as the film enters the second week.
With Wednesday collections turning out to be Rs. 3.16 crores, the film now stands at Rs. 35.34 crores. The first week should close around the 38 crores mark and from there its journey towards the Rs. 50 crores milestone would begin.
The film’s success is a shot in the arm for Sidharth Malhotra who would now be super excited for the release of his next film, Shershaah. That one is a Karan Johar production no less and is a biggie by all means. It carries good potential to cater to class as well as mass audience and once the promo is out, the target would be set for the film when it comes to its box office performance.

Bala demonstrated good hold on Wednesday as Rs. 1.96 crores came in. Fall from Tuesday (Rs. 2.05 crores) is very minimal and so far the trending has been good. Today again the numbers would be at least Rs. 1.75 crores and that would end the week on a very good note.
So far, the film stands at Rs. 97 crores and by Saturday, it should enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club. From here, the Ayushmann Khurrana would be targeting a lifetime of Rs. 120 crores and though that would be lesser than Dream Girl (which had managed to go past the Rs. 140 crores mark), it is still quite good if one looks at the cost of its making.
Producer Dinesh Vijan would next be aiming for a biggie with #AajKal which would be the first release of 2020 for Maddock Films. The Imtiaz Ali directed film has Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan in lead and one waits to see how big does it open on its Valentine’s Day arrival.

Marjaavaan had stable collections on Tuesday as Rs. 3.61 crores came in. On Monday, the film had collected Rs. 4.15 crores so even though there is a bit of a drop, it is manageable. As a matter of fact the good news is that when compared to Friday collections of Rs. 7.03 crores, the weekday drops are still less than 50%, which is a sign of good enough hold so far.
The film is finding target audiences cheering for it and that has resulted in Rs. 32.18 crores collected so far. These numbers are now on the same lines as lifetime business of Sidharth Malhotra’s Ittefaq, and the actor must be happy that Marjaavaan will eventually go much ahead than that.
For Milap Zaveri, the film’s success is reaffirmation of the kind of vision that he has carried for the genre. His next is Satyameva Jayate 2 and with that film, he is expected to go all out to cater to the masses. With John Abraham as the leading man and the release set for Gandhi Jayanti, 2020, expect huge numbers once it sees holiday arrival for itself.

Yet another record has been surpassed by Bala. In 12 days flat, the film has surpassed the lifetime numbers of Luka Chuppi, one of the earliest super hits of 2019. That film had collected Rs. 95 crores in its lifetime and now Bala stands at Rs. 95.04 crores.
On Tuesday, the film collected Rs. 2.05 crores and that was a nominal drop when compared to Monday numbers of Rs. 2.25 crores. The film should go on to accumulate around Rs. 3.25-3.50 crores more before the end of week and then enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club in the third weekend.
For producer Dinesh Vijan this is good news indeed as Luka Chuppi as well as Bala are his productions. Even former had the potential to cross the Rs. 100 crores milestone but then Badla too was running alongside and that film did business on the same lines. In case of Bala, there would be competition in the form of Pagalpanti next week, so it has to be seen where it eventually lands up.
The film is a super hit nonetheless.

Marjaavaan has emerged successful at the box office. The film had started well on Friday and then held on well on Saturday. It was on Sunday when the Milap Zaveri directed film took off in a big way as the double digit score came calling. However as it happens with the best of the films, it’s Monday which is the deciding factor and this is where the Nikkhil Advani production had to keep the momentum going.
This is what happened as well, what with Rs. 4.15 crores coming on Monday. Anything over Rs. 3.50 crores was going to be a good score for the action romantic entertainer and here the film has done even well. For Marjaavaan to do that and that too on the power of much lesser priced tickets at the single screen theatres pretty much indicates that amongst the target audiences it has managed to find its mark.
Currently standing at Rs. 28.57 crores, this Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh starrer is finding itself on a good footing now. If rest of the weekdays manage to stay over the Rs. 3 crores mark as well, the film is looking at a first week score of around Rs. 38 crores and that should allow it to go past the lifetime of at least Rs. 50 crores, which would be a good result indeed.

Bala is continuing with its victory stride as good hold was demonstrated on Monday. The film is doing quite well at the box office and that was seen yet again as Rs. 2.25 crores more came in. The film has been performing well especially at the multiplexes where the target audience lies. So while Marjaavaan is keeping the single screens happy, Bala is working well with the multiplexes.
So far, the Dinesh Vijan production has accumulated Rs. 92.99 crores and though at one point it had seemed that the film would enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club in two weeks flat, now it would happen in 15 or at maximum 16 days.
Nonetheless, the film is still a clean super hit and Ayushmann Khurranna would be closing the year with a high. With Article 15, Dream Girl and now Bala being wonderful successes, Ayushmann has joined the list of elite superstars who have managed a hat-trick of hits in a single year.

Milap Zaveri has reasons to smile. After his Independence Day 2018 release Satyameva Jayate, he has now managed to gain a mass opening for his regular Friday release Marjaavaan. The film entered the double digit zone on Sunday as Rs. 10.18 crores came in. There has been positive trending on a day to day basis right since the release. Though the jumps haven't been monumental, it was expected as well since unlike a multiplex film where family crowds begin to gather mainly over the weekend, massy films like these just stay on regular levels.
In the process, the film has also managed to become one of the better opening films for Sidharth Malhotra. His last hit film was Kapoor & Sons and that had collected Rs. 26.35 crores over the weekend. Now Marjaavaan has come close to that with Rs. 24.42 crores coming in. Of course many years have passed by since the release of the Karan Johar production. Still, since Marjaavaan is more of a massy film with showcasing mainly at the smaller centres and multiplexes of B and C cities, much lower ticket rates also come into play.
While the run so far has ensured that Marjaavaan would manage to emerge as a profit making venture eventually, what has to be seen is where exactly it heads for next. A lifetime total in the vicinity of Rs. 50 crores would be the first immediate target for the team associated with Marjaavaan and whatever comes beyond that would be an added bonus for all.

After a fantastic opening weekend, Bala showed very good growth in the second weekend too. On Sunday, the Amar Kaushik directed film brought in Rs. 8.01 crores and that has pushed the overall total to Rs. 90.74 crores.
For producer Dinesh Vijan, the first immediate target for Bala would be cross the lifetime numbers of his last super hit, Luka Chuppi [Rs. 95 crores]. While that should happen in quick time from now, he would next be gearing up for Rs. 100 Crore Club entry for Bala. That's something which would call for a celebration indeed as it would be Maddock Films' second century after Stree.
Of course, Stree would be hard to beat as that film had done well at multiplexes as well as single screens to accumulate Rs. 130 crores in the final run, hence turning out to be a blockbuster. Ditto for Ayushmann Khurranna's last big super hit Dream Girl which had gathered Rs. 142.26 crores in its lifetime due to the very same reason. In case of Bala, the moolah is primarily coming from the multiplexes and hence there may be a bit of shortfall from single screens.
Nonetheless, the film is still a super hit already and one now waits to see what do Ayushmann Khurranna, Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik announced as their next venture.

Marjaavaan is continuing to be on the right path as far as box office moolah is concerned. After bringing in Rs. 7.03 crores on Friday, the film stayed on the same levels on Saturday too with Rs. 7.21 crores coming in.
The Milap Zaveri directed film has accumulated Rs. 14.24 crores already and that too on the basis of lower priced tickets at the centres where it is collecting most. The footfalls for the film are better than a core multiplex film which would have collected close to Rs. 17 crores in these two days and that puts the reach of Marjaavaan in an even better perspective.
The Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh starrer's immediate target is former's Kapoor & Sons which had brought in Rs. 26.35 crores in its opening weekend. For that to happen, Marjaavaan needs to collect more than Rs. 10 crores on Sunday, something which should be possible as masses would be there in good numbers then. Once that happens, it would be a reason good enough for Nikkhil Advani and his Emmay Entertainment to come up with an even broader smile.

Bala is continuing to do well at the box office, what with huge growth evidenced on Saturday. The Dinesh Vijan production had brought in Rs. 3.76 crores on Friday and though that was bit of an expected dip from Friday, collections went up all over again on Saturday when Rs. 6.73 crores came in.
The Amar Kaushik directed film has now collected Rs. 82.73 crores already and it will definitely go past the Rs. 90 crores mark before the second weekend is through. As for the Rs. 100 crores total, it would be crossed by the time the second week is through for this Dinesh Vijan production.
For Ayushmann Khurranna, it is turning out to be one dream journey indeed, though one has to give him good enough credit for picking the kind of subjects that are coming his way. Not many actors would be comfortable playing the kind of characters that he is doing with ease and with Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan as one of his riskiest films in the making, it would be further interesting to see where does that eventually land up.

The much talked about and eagerly welcomed Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Bala has been doing well at the box office since its release. The film which talks about premature balding, has managed to captivate the critics and the audience alike. In fact, after opening on a good note the business of Bala witnessed considerable growth over its opening weekend. Now we hear that the film has managed to cross the Rs. 100 cr mark at the worldwide box office.
With Rs. 90.48 cr gross coming in from the domestic market alone, Bala has managed to collect a further Rs. 14.46 cr gross in the overseas markets. Thanks to this, the total earning of Bala at the worldwide box office is currently pegged at Rs. 104.94 cr gross.
If that wasn’t enough, despite new releases hitting screens Bala still holds the audiences’ interest, and the business of the film is expected to see growth over its second weekend running.
Bala Worldwide Box Office at a glance:
India box office Nett: Rs. 76 cr
India box office Gross: Rs. 90.48 cr
Overseas Gross: Rs. 14.46 cr
Worldwide collections Gross: Rs. 104.94 cr

It was predicted in this column that Marjaavaan will take an opening in the range of Rs. 6-8 crores. This is what happened as Rs. 7.03 crores came in. This is a good enough start for the film which was primarily relying on the mass belt, and especially the single screen theatres, for its opening. However what slightly worked in the favour of this Milap Zaveri directed film is the fact that it registered fair numbers at the multiplexes as well.
For Sidharth Malhotra, the film’s opening has come as a shot in the arm since it is better than even his last hit, Kapoor & Sons (Rs. 6.85 crores). Of course that was a hard-core multiplex film and now Marjaavaan is an out and out masala film, so the actor has actually been performing well across genres. It now has to be seen where the film goes from here.
As for Riteish Deshmukh, he has already delivered two major hits in multi-starrer comedies Total Dhamaal and Housefull 4 earlier this year. Now with Marjaavaan, he could well score another potential success.
Producer Nikkhil Advani would be keenly awaiting the outcome of Marjaavaan now, after making a classy Batla House a few months back which was in a different zone altogether. That could well pave the way for more films with a mix of genres in time to come.

Bala held on well at the box office on Friday as Rs. 3.76 crores came in. On Thursday the film had collected Rs. 5.31 crores so the drop is acceptable. Moreover, Marjaavaan released as well and that film did get its fair share of attention, albeit more at the single screens.
Nonetheless, the Dinesh Vijan production is a super hit in the making with good profits already in and more set to come in days to come. The film has accumulated Rs. 76 crores already and should be in Rs. 88-90 crores range by the time the second weekend is through. Post that it would be about its journey towards the Rs. 100 Crore Club and that should happen before the close of second week.
Such has been the kind of amazing run that Ayushmann Khurranna has been having at the box office that after three releases in 2019, he is already gearing up for a fantastic 2020 with the release of Shubh Mangal Zyaada Savdhaan been advanced. Typically films move ahead but it’s just the opposite for his gay rom com affair which is now coming in February itself. That could well turn out to be his next potential hit.
]]>

In this box office report we take a look at the box office collections of Pagalpanti in the overseas markets on Day 8 (Friday).
Australia box office
1,874 USD [Rs. 1.34 lacs] from 6 screens
New Zealand box office
2,886 USD [Rs. 2.06 lacs] from 8 screens
]]>
The film has so far collected Rs. 46.44 crores with numbers hovering between Rs. 85 lakhs to Rs. 1 crore in the weekdays. Though at multiplexes the film wasn’t much in the running, at single screen theatres it brought in audiences consistently. It did lose a big chunk of screens to Pagalpanti though; otherwise it may just have managed to cross Rs. 50 crores by now itself.
The Milap Zaveri directed film is a good shot in the arm for Sidharth Malhotra and now one waits to see how his Shershaah opens in 2020.
]]>
]]>

]]>
Currently, the multistarrer stands at Rs. 22 crores and this is a very low total for a film which has been made at a good budget. In fact ideally these should have been the numbers accumulated in the first two days and hence the outcome is overall poor.
It is apparent that the audiences were not really interested to check out the film after the promo didn’t make much of an impact. Even though there was another promo of the film released as well, the damage was done already and there was no revival in fortunes. The film isn’t bad but in the times when the relevance of a promo is bigger than ever before, Pagalpanti has unfortunately taken a downward route.

]]>

]]>
This is a very good number indeed as the film is set would see further addition in footfalls today, hence staying on to be the top choice of audiences at the multiplexes even in the third week. The film has accumulated Rs. 102.65 crores* already and would comfortably go past Rs. 105 crores milestone before the close of weekend.
What is further notable is the fact that Ayushmann Khurranna has already scored over Rs. 300 crores at the box office in a single calendar year. His Article 15 had netted Rs. 65.45 crores and post that Dream Girl did Rs. 142.26 crores.
]]>

]]>

]]>
With Wednesday collections turning out to be Rs. 3.16 crores, the film now stands at Rs. 35.34 crores. The first week should close around the 38 crores mark and from there its journey towards the Rs. 50 crores milestone would begin.
The film’s success is a shot in the arm for Sidharth Malhotra who would now be super excited for the release of his next film, Shershaah. That one is a Karan Johar production no less and is a biggie by all means. It carries good potential to cater to class as well as mass audience and once the promo is out, the target would be set for the film when it comes to its box office performance.

]]>

]]>
So far, the Dinesh Vijan production has accumulated Rs. 92.99 crores and though at one point it had seemed that the film would enter the Rs. 100 Crore Club in two weeks flat, now it would happen in 15 or at maximum 16 days.
Nonetheless, the film is still a clean super hit and Ayushmann Khurranna would be closing the year with a high. With Article 15, Dream Girl and now Bala being wonderful successes, Ayushmann has joined the list of elite superstars who have managed a hat-trick of hits in a single year.

]]>

]]>

]]>
